Principal's Message
Principal's Message
Greetings, Highland Elementary School Families and Community Members,
It is both an honor and a privilege to serve as the Principal of Highland Elementary School. I am excited to partner with our students, families, staff, and community as we continue to build upon Highland's strong tradition of academic excellence, inclusivity, and student-centered learning.
Highland Elementary is a vibrant learning community where every student's identity is valued, families are true partners in the educational journey, and educators work collaboratively to ensure equitable opportunities for every learner. We are committed to fostering an environment where all students feel safe, supported, challenged, and inspired to reach their full potential.
My leadership philosophy is grounded in creating a positive, nurturing learning environment that supports students' social, emotional, and developmental growth. I believe in providing culturally responsive learning experiences, implementing ambitious and engaging instructional practices, and leading through the principles of inclusion, equity, social justice, and belonging. Every decision I make is centered on what is best for students and their success.
I began my career as a middle school literacy teacher and a lead in Chicago Public Schools. Over the past decade, I have had the privilege of serving the Skokie D68 community in several roles, including Multilingual Educator, Department Chair, Reading Specialist, and Assistant Principal. Each experience has strengthened my commitment and deepened my passion for developing confident, compassionate, and lifelong learners.
I earned my bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Northeastern Illinois University, a master's degree in Reading Education from Concordia University, and a master's degree in Educational Leadership from National Louis University. I am currently pursuing a Doctorate in School Administration and Leadership at National Louis University, further strengthening my commitment to educational excellence and continuous learning.
As Principal, I am committed to leading with integrity, compassion, transparency, and collaboration. I believe that strong relationships between home and school are essential to student success, and I value open communication and meaningful partnerships with our families and community members. I encourage you to become actively involved in our school community and welcome your ideas, questions, and feedback. By working together, we will continue to build a strong, inclusive, and thriving Highland community where every student can flourish.
Thank you for your continued trust, support, and dedication to our students, staff, and the future of Skokie School District 68. I look forward to a wonderful school year and to all that we will accomplish together.
Best Regards,
Ferial Atto
Principal, Highland Elementary School
